Director Michal Pick Hamou’s student film, which she made as part of her studies at the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts, won a host of grants and awards, and was even named one of the ten best debut films out of the first 500 to have aired on Israel’s then-new television network, Channel 2. The Unsummoned is a loose adaptation of a short story by Jorge Luis Borges. The film is set in a military base, and at the heart of it is the relationship between two male officers who are best friends. However, cracks form in the friendship upon the arrival of Dana – a new female soldier – at the base. The two friends find themselves caught up in a passionate love triangle that plays out at their military office, their living quarters, and out and about in nature outside the base. Sure enough, the more intense the triangle gets, the deeper the rift between the two friends grows.
