In this documentary by Yariv Mozer (writer, director, producer) and Yael Perlov (producer and editor), the focus is on a historic archival find in the Spielberg Archive: an interview with David Ben-Gurion filmed in 1968, a few months after his wife, Paula, died, and five years before his own death.
The interview was originally missing its audio reels; after a long search the creators located the lost reels, then restored, edited and released the interview.
Mozer and Perlov edited the interview, interwove additional archival material and created a film that is something of a self-examination of a leader in the twilight of his life – Israel’s founding father, looking back on his personal and political life, discussing his views, the regional history, the wars he lived through, his vision and the long-awaited peace. Ben-Gurion’s closing remarks allow us to look through his eyes at what happened to the state he founded in the years after his departure.
