Dan Biron (1939-2024) was a journalist and director. After completing his military service, Biron worked as a programme editor on Israeli radio station Voice of Israel (‘Kol Israel’.) Then in 1967, he moved on to the just-founded Israeli Television Broadcasting Service where he became a producer, writer, and director.
Highlights of his TV creator and director’s credits include Midair Somersaults [‘Shminiyot BaAvir’], Reason to Party [‘Siba LiMsiba’], Head Clearing [‘Nikui Rosh’], Another Hit [‘Od Lahit’], Red River Valley, Pais Tropical, Hopa Hey [‘Allez hop’], and This is your Life.
Biron also helmed a number of commissions for the Israel Film Service including Safe Beach [‘Hof Batuach’] (1971), Christmas in Bethlehem (1971), and Vocational Education for Young Teens (1971).
From 1960 to his death, Biron played accordion with the Jerusalem Folklore Ensemble, one of Israel’s longest-running dance companies. In 2008, he stood for Jerusalem mayor in that year’s local elections as the candidate for liberal pro-cannabis legalisation party ‘Ale Yarok’ (green leaf) but failed to cross the electoral threshold and get into the council.
Biran was married to journalist and TV personality, Sari Raz.
