Alan Rosenthal is a documentary filmmaker, film lecturer, and Emeritus Professor at the Hebrew University’s Department of Communication and Journalism. UK-born Rosenthal studied Law at Oxford, and Communications at Stanford University. Later, he took on various teaching roles at Stanford and a variety of film schools in the UK, Australia, and Hong Kong.
Rosenthal has directed dozens of documentaries for a host of European TV channels including Arte, BBC, and ZDF, to name but a few. He has also penned numerous books on documentary filmmaking including Writing, Directing, and Producing Documentary Films and Videos (Southern Illinois University Press, 1990).
Highlights of his documentary directorial credits include Mysteries of Jerusalem – The Search for the True Cross (co-directed with Nissim Mossek, 1995), Adolf Eichmann – The Secret Memoirs (co-directed with Nissim Mossek, 2002), Stalin’s Last Purge (2005), and Waves of Freedom (2008).
