A documentary that was created to encourage donations for the development of the Negev. Three years after establishing the State of Israel, transforming the Negev desert into a thriving region became the young nation’s pioneering challenge. The film showcases extensive efforts to develop the area, including the establishment of Be’er Sheva as the capital of the Negev using advanced methods, the construction of roads connecting the Negev to the rest of the country, and the creation of a water supply system from Kibbutz Nir Am to other parts of the region via pipelines and pumping stations. The film also highlights settlement and agricultural development in Kibbutz Shoval, significant archaeological discoveries in the Negev, and the benefits of modernization for the Bedouin community, who gained access to medical care, running water, and new schools. It concludes in Eilat, the southernmost point of the country, which, despite lacking a paved road, is destined to become a major and thriving port city.
