An excerpt from the film “First Steps”, produced by the Israeli Film Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption and the Jewish Agency, describes the absorption processes of Soviet immigrants from their landing at Lod Airport. The absorption chain begins with a short interview with an official of the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption, who finds out if they have an education and if they have relatives in the country. Immigrants receive assistance in finding an apartment and a pension that should help them until they find work. Upon arrival at the apartment, the immigrants receive basic equipment for the contents of the apartment, such as beds, mattresses, pots, and blankets.
