A short documentary about the painter Isaac Amitai, born in Jerusalem in 1907 to a fifth-generation traditional family in Israel. From a young age, he displayed a passion for art and studied at the “Bezalel” School under its founder, Boris Schatz, who inspired his depictions of the country’s landscapes and character. In the 1940s, Amitai studied in Paris, drawing influence from Expressionism and Western art. Upon returning, he blended these influences with his deep connection to local landscapes. Later, he embraced Cubism and abstract styles, exhibiting works in the United States. During a five-year stay in Safed, he captured the city’s mystical essence in his paintings. The film highlights a retrospective exhibition at the “Beit Emanuel” Museum in Ramat Gan, celebrating 50 years of Amitai’s artistry, with opening remarks by Knesset member Shimon Peres on the vital role of artists in Israeli culture
