A 35 episode documentary TV series created by the Israeli Film Service.
The script follows a week by week account of events in the 1948 war, starting with the 1947 UN resolution on the Partition Plan for Palestine and concluding with Israel’s first Defense Forces Parade, on July 27, 1948.
Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni leads an armed struggle of a thousand gang members in a failed attempt to occupy Gush Etzion. The Haganah supply convoy en route to the isolated settlements is attacked by Arab villagers and all its members are killed. Arab sniper attacks on the Jewish neighborhoods Beit Israel and Shimon Hatzadik near Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem lead to retaliatory action by Haganah underground troops, who place mines in 26 Arab houses in Sheikh Jarrah and demolish them. Retaliatory actions are also employed in south Jerusalem between the besieged Mekor Chaim neighborhood and Beit Safafa and will continue to be the main strategy used by Zionists until the spring of 1948..
