A 35 episode documentary TV series created by the Israeli Film Service. The script follows a week by week account of events in the 1948 war, starting with the 1947 UN resolution on the Partition Plan for Palestine and concluding with Israel’s first Defense Forces Parade, on July 27, 1948. The first episode describes the week following the resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, on the Partition Plan for Palestine, adopted on November 29, 1947. The Arab leadership rejects the plan outright, and the Zionist leadership – as Ben Gurion describes – accepts its main points but rejects the idea of isolating Jerusalem from the Jewish state as a separate entity under international management. Illegal Zionist organizations gather hidden weapons and armed guards occupy defensive positions between neighborhoods in conflict. Angry Arab mob breaks into the Jewish commercial market in Mamilla, looting and setting it on fire. In retaliation, Jews set fire to the Rex Cinema, which is owned by the Christian Joseph Pascal Albina and the Jewish Moshe Yona Friedman. Illegal Jewish immigration by the sea continues but often it is blocked by the British Navy sea patrols who deport the refugees to detention camps in Cyprus. The Yishuv leadership announces general recruitment.
