A short documentary produced by the Israeli Film Service. This film presents one of the most significant settlement operations before the establishment of the State of Israel that shaped the southern borders of the country. The film unravels the story of 11 kibbutzes in the northern Negev that were established overnight in October 1946. Through a series of interviews with the first settlers, the film provides insights into the numerous challenges faced by these kibbutzes during their early years. These challenges include the laying of the water pipeline, friction with the British forces and with the Bedouins, and the development of local agriculture. The film recounts several heroic stories from Israel’s War of Independence in 1948 when these kibbutzes repelled attacks by the Egyptian army and prevented its advance towards Tel Aviv.
