In 1986, the United States hosted a grand exhibition titled “Treasures of the Holy Land,” showcasing artifacts from the archaeological collection of the Israel Museum. Through this short film produced by the American Friends of the Israel Museum and the Israeli Film Service, the historian Walter Zanger takes the viewers on a 9,000-year journey, unraveling the origins of the exhibition’s treasures. Zanger travels along Israel, exploring sites from different archeological periods. Beginning with the cultural hubs of Canaanite civilization in Jericho, he ventures through archaeological sites dating back to the time of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and remnants from the dawn of Christianity. The journey ends with the tragic tale of the Great Jewish Revolt, unveiled against the backdrop of Masada.
