A special broadcast in honor of the matches between Israel and the Soviet Unions national soccer teams during the qualification for the Olympic Games.
The Israeli team, coached by Albert Henry Jackie Gibbons, lands in Moscow ahead of its first match against the Soviet team. The players stroll around the Red Square, visit the VDNK World Fairs and Exhibition Center, and converse with locals. Afterward, a reception in honor of the players is held at the Israeli Embassy in Moscow. Israel Ambassador to the Soviet Union Yoseph Avidar and his wife the writer Yemima Avidar-Tchernovitz converse with the delegation.
The first match between the Israeli national team and the local team takes place at the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow. Above the stands, a poster of Lenin hangs and underneath it a Hebrew sign reading Greetings to the Athletes of Israel. The game begins and ends in a 0:5 win for the home team. Afterward, players of both teams partake in a dinner and a ball in the presence of ambassador Avidar and Yosef Michael Lam, the head of the delegation and the president of Israel Football Association.
Ahead of the second match in Israel, the Israel National Team players fly from Moscow to Lod Airport, where they hug with friends and relatives. Later, the players of the Soviet team land in Israel and speak in a press conference.
The second match between the teams is held at Ramat Gan in front of many fans, including ministers, Knesset members, and the mayor. During the match, Israeli goalkeeper Yaakov Hodorov fractures a finger and is evacuated on a stretcher to return to the game later. The game ends with a 2:1 win for the away team. After the match, a festive meal is held for players of both the teams.
