Five boats built for the Israeli navy in Cherbourg, France, were captured by Israeli security forces and brought to Haifa port, after France declared an arms sales embargo on Israel. The ships arrive at Haifa in the evening and a reception is held. The ships are unarmed and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abba Eban promises the French ambassador that they will be used uniquely for peaceful purposes and oil exploration.
