Political campaigns before the elections: Prime Minister Levi Eshkol, and Knesset Members David Ben Gurion and Menachem Begin give stump speeches. Propaganda posters are posted in Israeli cities, and the peace activist Abie Nathan enters his Shalom 1 plane. The Central Elections Committee prepares the ballot boxes. President of Israel Zalman Shazar and his wife Rachel are among the first voters on Election Day. They are followed by Eshkol and his wife Miriam, Begin, and Deputy Defense Minister Shimon Peres. Arab citizens vote in Nazareth, and ships whose staff was not allowed to vote while in the sea strike in protest as they dock at the Port of Haifa. Israelis spend the vacation day in parks and nature. Parties arrange shuttles to drive voters to their polling places. Cafes on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv are full of costumers. At the end of Election Day, the votes are counted, Kol Israel radio station broadcasts preliminary results, and celebrations start at parties headquarters. The next day, street sweepers clean the cities streets.
