An international costume festival takes place at the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv. The festival is in fact a fashion show featuring national costumes of Diaspora Jewry from a variety of ethnic groups, which takes place as part of a search for Israels national costume. The festival features about 50 outfits from the tribes of Israel, ranging from Africa and Asia to Europe, as well as folklore costumes from the American continent alongside Asia and Africa. The show includes costumes from Yemen, Morocco, India, Azerbaijan, Thessaloniki, Bukhara, Kurdistan, as well as Arabic, Hasidic and Sephardi costumes, and more. The show is organized by the Association for National Garments, which aims to restore and purchase clothing, objects, photographs and jewelry in order to learn about the life of the Jewish diasporas. The findings are on display at the Ethnographic Urban Museum at the Haaretz Museum in Ramat Aviv. The purpose of the current exhibition is to raise awareness of Jewish folklore and to encourage the preservation and collection of costumes and ethnographic collections that will be donated to the association.
