The first phase of excavation work in Masada, headed by Prof. Yigael Yadin, is about to be completed. Knesset member David Ben-Gurion and his wife Paula Ben-Gurion arrive to Masada to examine the progress at the site. To date, nine written certificates were discovered, as well as a piece of Tallit (prayer shawl) and a Tzitzit, close to 50 coins and other findings. The exposure of Herods 3-staircase palace is approaching completion, as is the reconstruction of the first hall of the warehouse block. A modest ceremony is held for donors from the United States who assist in financing the archaeological excavations at the site, in the presence of Knesset member David Ben Gurion. Site workers excavate and work, while down in the valley, researchers examine and clean the findings in a tent camp with improvised work stations.
