On the eve of International Workers Day, a ceremony is held near Beit Brenner in Tel Aviv in the presence of Mayor Mordechai Namir. Many participants raise flags decorated with black ribbons, in memory of former President of Israel Yitzhak Ben Zvi, who died at the end of April. The following day, an elaborate procession moves through the streets of Tel Aviv and is led by Namir, Secretary of the Tel Aviv Workers Council Uri Alpert, Secretary-General of the Histadrut Aharon Becker, and Alphonse Katima, the secretary-general of Congos trade unions. The march ends at the Bloomfield Stadium, where the final match of Tel Avivs Workers Councils Soccer Cup is held. In Haifa, 20 thousand youths partake in a parade in Hadar neighborhood. They are joined by Minister of Development and Housing Yosef Almogi, Mayor Abba Hushi, Haifa Workers Council Secretary Dov Bahat, and Histadrut Central Committee Member Berl Raptor, that march along and then watch the procession from a stage near Ora Cinema.
