Year of the Pioneers (Rishonim) Celebrations in Petah Tikva mark the 85th anniversary of the town. The Rishonim street is inaugurated at the unveiling ceremony of the street sign with the presence of veteran settlers, Knesset member David Ben-Gurion and Deputy Mayor of Petah Tikva Israel Feinberg. Speeches on stage feature Knesset Member Ben-Gurion speaking to the public. An IDF night military parade is held in Petah Tikva, saluting the pioneers of the first 14 moshavot. Elderly settlers who are representatives of the first settlements, each present each the flag of their community and are seen standing alongside IDF soldiers, among them is seen the Oldest Guard Avraham Shapira standing next to a Petah Tikva flag. Prime Minister Levi Eshkol speaks at a rally in front of Ginzburg Field, where he was employed as a worker 50 years earlier, afterwards, the march gets underway, partly by car and partly by foot in a convoy From Beilinson Hospital, through Tzahal and Jabotinsky Streets. General Mobutu, the commander of the Congo army who is visiting Israel, is sitting on the dais, watching the military parade.
