A 1937 colour film portraying a typical day in Degania; Israel’s first ever kibbutz. The film features members of the kibbutz going about their day, doing agricultural work, harvesting crops with a combine, ploughing the earth, feeding the cows with fodder, and working at the banana plantation. The film also follows local construction in the kibbutz, the fishing trade, women performing their tasks, and guarding of the kibbutz borders. The kibbutz children’s collective is also featured in the film, appearing as toddlers and young children running freely about the grasslands. Also seen in the footage are the kibbutz youths’ collective, and the young members of the Youth Aliyah movement who had come from Europe and are shown sitting and listening to kibbutz founder and member, Yosef Baratz.
