One of the first films ever shot in Palestine by the French Lumière brothers during Ottoman times. This film by the Lumière brothers offers a moving, first of its kind record of Jaffa, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. Highlights of the film feature footage from Jafa Port; the courtyard at Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity; Jerusalem’s railways station; a selection of hallowed sites and appearances by worshippers of all three major religions – Muslims, Christians, and Jews. The film was shot in 1896, just a couple of years after the brothers’ debut picture.
