A report in French on the opening of the 11th International Book Fair at the International Convention Center (Binyanei HaUma) in Jerusalem. The fair features numerous authors and publishers from Israel and around the world, showcasing a variety of books and exhibitions across all genres. Among the booths, there is also a special stand for books for the blind written in Braille and an exhibition of reissued books that were burned in Nazi Germany. Additionally, as part of the fair, the “Jerusalem Prize for Freedom of the Individual in Society” was awarded—a biennial literary prize given every odd year to writers from around the globe—to Trinidadian author Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul. In a parallel ceremony to the fair, at the French House (Beit Tzarfat) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the sword of the late author Joseph Kessel was presented to the university president Abraham Herman by French Academy member Jean d’Ormesson.
