The final part of a trilogy in Honi Hameagel film, documenting the fringe show “Arbeit macht frei in Toitland Europa” by the Acco Theater. Honi, with a video camera, captures the five-hour play, which deals with the second and third generations’ confrontation with the Holocaust and its influence on the formation of Israeli society, with humor and sarcasm. This part follows the end of the intense theater event, where viewers are forced to crawl up from the cramped and low room where they sit, through openings in the ceiling to the top space of the show. Loud Israeli songs can be heard in the space, and naked actors are scattered at different levels. Khaled Abu Ali runs naked, slaps himself, and offers viewers a whip to strike him. Smadar Jaaron, approaches him and embraces him, and in the image of “Pieta,” the beaten Arab embraced in the arms of a Holocaust survivor, the play ends.
Cast: Smadar Jaaron, Moni Yosef, Khaled Abu Ali, and Netta Plutski. Directed by: Honi Hameagel, Editing: Eli Hamo.
