A fundraising video for the State of Israel produced by the United Jewish Appeal of France for the Hanukkah holiday, in French.
“In those days, at this time,” says the narrator, referring to the military successes of modern Israel in the Six-Day War and Operation Entebbe, which evoke the miracles celebrated during Hanukkah. Prime Minister Menachem Begin speaks about Hanukkah, the Hasmoneans, and Benjamin Ze’ev Herzl’s brief story about Hanukkah, accompanied by a choir singing Hanukkah songs, and appeals to the Jews of France to continue donating money to help the country defend its borders. A representative of the United Jewish Appeal of France arrives to bring the shamash candle from Jerusalem to light the menorahs of Paris and Provence.
