An explanatory film in English and Spanish produced by the Israeli Film Service, that explores the pivotal year of 1984 in Israel’s political landscape. Faced with an economic crisis, the Lebanon War, and a fiercely contested election, the nation sought innovative solutions to navigate its challenges. For the first time, a rotation agreement for the Prime Minister’s position emerged within a unity government formed by rival leaders Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Shamir. Together, they orchestrated the Israel Defense Forces’ withdrawal from Lebanon, brought an end to the war, and initiated a “package deal” with the Manufacturers’ Association, marking a crucial step in combating inflation and addressing the economic turmoil. These significant actions signaled a promising shift toward a new future for Israel. Despite the troubling election of Rabbi Meir Kahane to the Knesset and his racist ideology, the momentum of advancements in high-tech, industry, and arts and culture began to redefine the nation’s trajectory.
