“Through Our Eyes,” aired in 2001, is a TV documentary series of short episodes focusing on Ethiopian born creators in Israel. It was produced by the Israel Film Service and presented by Tibebe Solomon.
This episode focuses on Shmuel Beru, an actor, screenwriter, and director.

Shmuel Beru served in the IDF theater, acted in “Habima,” an elite Israeli national theater, staged plays and stand-up shows, and directed the film “Zrubavel,” in 2008.
The episode focuses on Beru’s views on theater, acting, the characters he plays, and the actors who inspire him. He is socially aware of the challenge of Ethiopian-born actors to break through the glass ceiling of the Israeli theatre. He uses the episode to encourage them to compete in leading roles in the Israeli film and theater scenes.
The episode includes a humorous scene of an Ethiopian family’s violence. To help a victim of domestic violence, a community representative visits her home and hears about her hardship. During the meeting, the man discloses to the woman that he is also a victim of domestic violence, and towards the end of the scene, he suggests that they both leave their abusive partners and marry each other. When the woman unveils the man’s true intentions, she shamefully removes him from her apartment.
