A documentary film depicting the events of Israel’s Memorial Day and Independence Day in 1959. The film opens with the narrator’s words: “On the eve of Independence Day, the entire nation will dedicate itself to a general memorial day in memory of the fallen soldiers of the IDF in the War of Independence, the Sinai Campaign, and the reprisal operations.” In the background, the Air Force Memorial Day ceremony at Mount HaTayasim (Pilot’s Mountain) is shown, with the participation of bereaved families. The film then transitions to the torch-lighting ceremony on Mount Herzl, held to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Theodore Herzl, the visionary of the State of Israel. The shift from mourning to celebration is further highlighted through a depiction of an impressive military parade in Haifa the following day, attended by approximately 300,000 people. The parade featured displays of fighter jets, navy ships, infantry, engineering, and armored corps. The documentary concludes with scenes of nationwide Independence Day celebrations, including singing, dancing, and joyful events involving citizens from all walks of life.
