This footage was taken outside the theater where the 16th World Zionist Congress was held in Zürich, Switzerland in 1929. The 16th Congress convened on the 25th anniversary of Theodore Herzl’s death, as mentioned by Congress Chairman, Haim Weizman, in his speech; Weizman was also appointed President of the Jewish Agency once the 16th Congress approved its establishment. Additional speakers at the Congress included Chairman of the World Zionist Executive, Nahum Sokolow, Pinchas Rosen (then still named Felix Rosenbluth), Arthur Rupin, Haim Arlozorov, Ze’ev Jabotinsky and others. The footage shows such figures as Weizman, Sokolow and David Ben-Gurion arriving at the venue and walking near the entrance to the theater, alongside other attendees who walk about near the building, exchange greetings and converse with one another.
