Promotional film for the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, produced by the Israel Film Service.
The film explores the challenges and dilemmas associated with the decision to immigrate from Israel to the United States. The immigrants, “deluxe” type, as one of them points out, arrived in New York in the early nineties in search of new economic and social opportunities. Through interviews with these immigrants, the film showcases the intricate difficulties that arise with immigration, even when it is undertaken for convenience. Those who returned to Israel share their experiences of a strong sense of belonging and solidarity in Israel, alongside the criticism they faced for leaving initially. An Israeli youth Judo champion and her coach, Yael Arad, discuss the advantages of immigrating to Israel for a competitive career. The film’s soundtrack features songs by Uzi Naim, an Israeli singer who has resided in New York for over 15 years.
