An episode from a documentary series produced by the Israel Film Service about musicians who won the Israel Prize.
In a monologue captured in this film, the composer Arie Shapira, angered by his colleagues influenced by Western music, says: “You are not Israelis. I write about Israel, and you write about Vienna. My music is honest. Your music is fake.” These confrontational words join a long line of sharp remarks by Shapira, who didn’t hesitate to express strong opinions about how music should be made.
Alongside Shapira, the film interviews members of his family and musicians. They talk about life and work alongside the unique avant-garde artist.
Among others, the film features Gilad Hildesheim, Bat Sheva Shapira, Guy Barash, Gan Lev, Yonatan Hazan, Ziv Salama, and Nir Ritter.
