A humoristic promotional film, in which new immigrants and WIZO volunteers play their life roles. This film was created as a fundraising campaign for the Immigrant Absorption Department of WIZO in 1950. It tells the story of immigrants from previous waves who volunteer to help new immigrants and their families in remote settlements, during the mass immigration period of the 1950s. The main protagonist, Sonia, and her fellow volunteers respond to David Ben Gurion’s call to adopt the new immigrants and help ease their absorption difficulties. Sonia meets Penina, a new immigrant from the fictional settlement of Gevaot, and mediates a reconciliation process that enables Pnina to return “home”.
The film reviews WIZO projects in the fictional village, including a clinic, day care for children, youth club, and Hebrew class. It ends with an amusing scene celebrating the fifth anniversary of the founding of Gevaot, during which WIZO volunteer husbands join them at the celebration that was accompanied by Yemenite dancers.
