At a ceremony held at Haifa port, General Gordon McMillan, the last commander of the British army forces in Palestine, hands over power to representatives of the newly established state of Israel, while the British army leaves Israel. Representatives of the British Army evacuate heavy equipment to the ship and the British flag is lowered from atop building. A ceremony is held in the port plaza to mark the transfer of Haifa port to the State of Israel, in the presence of interim Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, the Mayor of Haifa, Shabtai Levy, and other representatives. The Israeli navy enters the Haifa port and the Israeli flag is raised to the masthead.
