Tension between Jews and Arabs increases during this period, and the press reports of arsons of businesses under Jewish ownership in the commercial center in Mamilla neighborhood. Policemen of the Palestine Police Force alongside firefighters are putting out the fire and clearing the debris created by the fire in several locations. Armored vehicles of British soldiers patrol the city streets alongside security buffer zones with barbed wire. An armored vehicle passes by the “Rex” cinema located on Queen Mary Street (nowadays Shlomzion Street), as most shops in the area appear closed.
