A film from the archives of David Zeitani.
On August 16, 1949, the coffin of Chozeh HaMedinah Benjamin Zeev Herzl was brought from Austria for burial in Israel. His coffin landed at the airport in Lod, where a military ceremony was held. From there, the coffin, covered with an embroidered curtain, was led to the Knesset Square in Tel Aviv, where an official ceremony was held. The next day, the coffin was taken to the building of the national institutions in Jerusalem and from there to the burial ceremony in Mountain Herzl. The ceremony was conducted by the Navy Rabbi, Avraham Horowitz, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Shragai, and Israel Bar Zakai, who ended the ceremony by saying El Malei Rachamim.
