Elad Keidan’s existential comedy takes place in the city of Haifa, which functions as one of the three protagonists of the film. A couple is at home in the lower city: the woman has lost an earring, and the man volunteers to climb up Mount Carmel in an attempt to find it where it was most likely lost. Meanwhile, higher up on the mountain, a young Israeli artist who has skipped his reserve duty heads down toward the port, where he is set to board a ship that will take him far from his homeland.
The two men – the one going up and the one coming down – encounter a variety of characters along their paths and experience revelations that affect their worlds. Above all hovers the possibility that along the way they might meet.
Afterthought was screened at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the official selection, won the Best Film award at the Haifa Film Festival, and received three Ophir Awards – Best Script (Elad Keidan), Best Sound (Vitaliy Grinshpun & Aviv Aldema), and Best Editing (Arik Lahav-Leibovitch).
