The film, a big screen adaptation of Dahn (Dan) Ben-Amotz’s bestselling novel of the same title, was enormously successful upon its theatrical release, with upwards of 450,000 people having watched in cinemas at a time when local audiences had all but abandoned Israeli film.
Nira and Raffy’s romance blossoms ahead of their military service whilst both are still young, beautiful, and eager to “grab life by the horns.” The relationship, however, takes a seismic turn during Raffy’s military service when he suffers a life-changing injury in combat with terrorists that leaves him paralysed from the waist down. Raffy slips into a deep depression, pushing away anyone and everyone around him who are trying to help, including family and his ever-loving Nira.
Later, Raffy somehow still manages to find the strength to try and resume life, come to terms with his trauma and especially, his crippling anxiety over his ability to perform, sexually.
