and going commercial (aka ‘selling out’) as it plays out in the film when a camera crew heads out to the desert to shoot a big screen musical adaptation of the biblical tale of David and Goliath. The producers, who are holding the purse strings, fall out with the director whilst the cast end up caught in the crossfire. When the investor eventually pulls out of this trainwreck of a production, and the producers decide to actively sabotage it and shut down the set to get the insurance payout – the cast decide to take matters into their own hands and see the production through, on their own, by hook or by crook.
The film, in itself a bit of a slapdash rushed production, tanked at the box office and today, is mostly remembered for Meir Banai’s ‘Shafshaf’s Song’ which he performs during the film, and has since become a timeless hit.
