Filmmaker Yariv Mozer’s documentary explores a seldom-chartered corner of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: the story of Palestinian gay men who fled the Occupied Territories in search of shelter in Tel Aviv. The film’s protagonists are hounded everywhere they go – under Palestinian Authority rule, they are persecuted for their sexuality whereas in Tel Aviv, their would-be refuge, they are hunted down by the authorities who wish to deport them back to the Territories.
The film offers a rare glimpse at the lives of its three protagonists: Louis, who is both emotionally and physically scarred, and has been hiding out in Tel Aviv for the better part of a decade; Abdu, who endured untold torture at the hands of Palestinian Authority interrogators; and Fares, whose own family has threatened his life. The men’s only chance at survival is to be offered asylum in another country.
The film earned a Special Mention at the Docaviv International Documentary Film Festival, and was shown at countless festivals round the world.
