Chaim Halachmi’s 1932 film Oded the Wanderer is the first full-length feature film produced in the Land of Israel. Due to a very low budget, it was made as a silent film—even though sound films had already existed for about five years by the time of its production.
The story is an adaptation of the book Oded the Wanderer by Zvi Lieberman, and tells the tale of Oded, a boy from Nahalal who gets lost during a class trip. While his classmates and family set out to search for him, the tired, thirsty, and injured Oded searches for them in return. His wanderings turn into an adventure through which he discovers the land he lives in—its landscapes and its people—before finally being reunited with his family and friends.
