A film by director Shirly Berkovitz, commissioned by Israeli cabler YES DOCU for their documentary series, Our Children: A Family Anthology – a collection of documentaries made by female directors.
The film offers a rare, intimate glimpse into the world of Or, a young man from a traditional religious home who decides to change his life and transition from male to female. He forges a letter of acceptance from Oxford University which he shows his parents as a way of getting the cash. His hard-living parents are convinced that the money is going towards tuition fees and are totally unaware that it will, in fact, be used for gender reassignment surgery in Thailand. A touching, minimalist film that chronicles every step of Or’s life-changing journey and does not shy away even from the most graphic, difficult parts.
