An intimate portrait of Meir who, since 1995, has been ravaged with guilt over his failure to have stopped a suicide bombing [see the ‘Kfar Darom bus attack’] that killed and injured dozens of soldiers and civilians. Meir never sleeps. Forever reliving the memory of that harrowing day, he now makes wooden artworks that bear an eerie resemblance to severed body parts. And whilst he does crave companionship, who would want to share their life with a man who, at all hours of the day, is relentlessly plagued by the demons of his past?
In the process of following and observing Meir, filmmaker Micha Amitai’s own lingering trauma is triggered: during a military training exercise in Romania which Amitai himself had led, an IDF CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopter crashed, killing everyone onboard. A shared trauma and military past lead to a deeply special bond between director and subject.
