Tel Aviv marks the big screen directorial debut of stage director, culture entrepreneur, critic, and journalist Marat Parkhomovsky. The indie film follows a young married couple in the throes of an emotional time in their relationship. At the start of the film, the couple, who are expecting, learn that the foetus has, apparently, not been developing properly, and that they must return for a follow-up scan in five days’ time. The agonising waiting period forces the couple to face the world around them: there’s Tel Aviv, their shared and personal dreams, the theatre where the husband works as a director, the wife’s casual fling, an ever-challenging financial reality, and primarily – each other. The wait for potentially life-changing, devastating news finds the pair reevaluating their lives, choices, and whole relationship.
The film won Best Debut Feature at the Haifa International Film Festival.
