This film compilation features a collection of films that focus on Movement Notation, as well as a range of other materials collected by Noa Eshkol who dedicated her entire life to the conceiving and perfecting of this trailblazing movement notation that was not only used for the purpose of outlining and documenting dance, but also in other areas of arts and sciences. A Kibbutz Degania native, Noa Eshkol (1924-2007) was a movement and dance theoretician, a dancemaker, teacher, and textile artist. She rose to fame in the 1950s as the one who had co-developed along with architect, Abraham Wachmann the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation. This form of notation, whose letters are a collection of symbols and numbers which represent the relations and dynamics between parts of the body in movement and in space, gave rise to a new method capable of articulating the human form’s every possible movement. This is a collection whose significance cannot be stated enough, and which offers an invaluable wealth of information to scholars, filmmakers, students, museums, various organisations, and so forth. The compilation is the property of the Noa Eshkol Foundation for Movement Notation that has entrusted it in the hands of the Israeli Film Archive. The archive is responsible for its management, maintenance, scientific preservation, and ongoing availability to the general public.
