Introducing the Guttman family’s rare film collection, shot by members of the family in Israel/Palestine and the US during the 1940s. The collection features a host of family moments captured on film from the life of Prof. Eliahu (Louis) Guttman and his wife, Ruth Guttman (Née Halperin) who had both immigrated to Palestine in 1947 and subsequently, set up shop in Jerusalem. Alongside the family footage, the films feature a range of urban sites and landmarks, and several historic moments such as scenes from Jerusalem following the declaration of Israeli independence, military parades, the country’s inaugural Independence Day celebrations, the streets of Jerusalem, and lots more. This is a family film collection of great historical significance that will no doubt prove itself a valuable source of information for scholars, filmmakers, students, museums, various organisations, etc. The collection is the property of the Guttman family. Daphna Guttman, Eliahu and Ruth’s daughter has entrusted it in the hands of the Israeli Film Archive that is now in charge of its maintenance and management, scientific preservation, and accessibility to the general public.
