The United Studios of Israel Newsreel Collection includes the Carmel Herzliya Reels and the Gevah Reels – Black and white newsreels that were shown in Israeli cinemas and featured the country’s then-current affairs, in real time. The reels were shown intermittently from the early 1950s until 1971 when they were then decommissioned following the creation of Israeli Television and the subsequent drop in public demand for film newsreels. This is a collection of immeasurable historical significance. The vast majority of reels were preserved with their original sound intact, and can be used as a precious source of information for scholars, filmmakers, students, museums, various organisations, etc. The collection is the property of The United Studios of Israel Archive that have entrusted it in the hands of the Israeli Film Archive. The Archive is in charge of the collection’s maintenance and management, scientific preservation, and accessibility to the general public.
