Yatir region in the south of the Judean desert, bordering the northeastern Negev, the Hebron mountain to the north, and the northern edge of the Arava. This region of land lies on both sides of the Green Line, in the center of which is Yatir Forest, the largest of the forests of the Land of Israel. The forest is the largest planted forest in Israel, and the largest forest in the world planted by man in a semi-desert area. Rafi Cohen, the manager of the forest, talks about the work in the forest and in the area, the members of the Moshav Beit Yatir who are engaged in Torah and agriculture, tree planting, thriving vineyards, and youth from around the world who come to work in the forest. Photos from the foresters’ fortress, a fortress that overlooks the entire forest and from where the activity takes place.
