Israeli Navy ships cruise along the coast of Tel Aviv at the opening of the IDF parade on Independence Day. Half a million spectators huddle together on porches and roofs of the citys buildings, balconies, and sidewalks to watch the display. Cavalry escort the official vehicle of President of Israel Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, he stands on the stage with Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Moshe Dayan, and Commander of the Central Command General Tzvi Tzur, and the parade begins. First, military vehicles carry the flags of Israel, the IDF, and its units. Then, dozens of AMX-13 and Sherman tanks, and self-propelled guns drive in front of the crowd. Following IDFs weapons, a line of armored vehicles confiscated from the Egyptian Army during the Suez Crisis passes. Above the event, Israeli Air Force jets fly in an aerobatic display. Military off-road cars carry flags of IDFs brigades. Behind them march troops of the Infantry, Navy, Teleprocessing Corps, Womens Corps, Engineering Corps, Gadna, and Paratroopers Brigade, famous for its battles in the Sinai campaign.
