A state memorial service is held on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Theodor Herzl, visionary of the state of Israel. The ceremony is attended by President of Israel Yitzhak Ben Zvi, Prime Minister Moshe Sharett, Speaker of the Knesset Yosef Sprinzak, and government ministers. During the ceremony, children carry flags commemorating the various Zionist Congresses of past years, and a guard of honor stands by Herzls tomb. Veterans of the early zionist congresses, Prof. Joseph Klausner and Mayer (Meir) Ebner, watch the raising of the Israeli flag. The hazzan Avraham Wilkomirsky sings in the memorial service.
