Israel started digging a trench to divert the water of the Jordan River to use in a hydroelectric plant. In response, the Syrians started diverting the sources of the Jordan River - Hermon and Snir streams - away from Israel. United Nations Truce Supervision Organization personnel look on the earthworks on the Israeli side of the border.
