New traffic restrictions prohibiting vehicle traffic on the bridges over the Jordan River are in effect, and from now on, only pedestrian traffic is allowed. Since the new traffic regulations, the passage of goods and trading contact reduced significantly compared to the times of the Open Bridges policy. On the Allenby Bridge, Palestinians cross from Jordan to the West Bank. They have to disembark their cars before the bridge, walk across, and board another vehicle on the other side. A diplomatic vehicle with an American flag crosses the Allenby Bridge, and William Scranton, United States Presidents special envoy to the Middle East, alights from it and speaks to the press on the bridge.
