Israelis Demonstrate and strike in protest against the Leningrad trials. The trials were held against a group, made up largely of Soviet Jews, that planned to hijack a plane to Sweden in order to raise awareness in regards to the closure imposed by the Soviet Union on Jews wishing to migrate. In the days before the trial, a two-minute siren is sounded across the country in solidarity with the defendants. Subsequently, immigrants from the Soviet Union and former prisoners of Zion launch an eight-day hunger strike by the Western Wall. On the ninth day, the hunger strike ends but the protest develops, and many join, including Habima theatre actors. In a protest march in Tel Aviv outside the Finnish embassy which represents Soviet interests in Israel, the Soviet flag is set on fire. Protesters carry photos of Leningrad defendants and signs calling for the USSR to allow for Jews to leave.
